Tuesday April 9, 2013  Dept St Andrews Marina mile 288 to Scipio Creek Marina Apalachicola mile 351
63 miles today

We left our dock at 7:20 skies were clear with a light SW breeze there were ripples on the bay as we passed by Panama City We continued East on the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) through a series of bays and rivers. The channel is dredged to about 12'  in most places and well marked with channel markers on pilings or floating bouys.   During the day the wind picked up to about 10 -15 Knots (a knot is 1.15 statute miles) but we were in protected water all the way so no problem.
Not long after noon we crossed from the central time zone  to eastern time so lost an hour there, but, we will make it back next week when we head west.
We arrived at Scipio Creek marina in Apalachicola about 4:30 pm,  our slot on the dock was pretty tight, but the wind was not in a bad direction so we didn't have much trouble getting into the space without bumping either the boats in front or in back of us. We had a nice dinner at the marina's restaurant, Papa Joe's, where we have always found good food since we first stopped here in 2005.
A front with bad wather is supposed to come through here Thursday so we plan to stay put till Friday morning when we will go to Port St Joe another of our favorite stops not too far east of here.
Apalachicola is a nice small town, a little touristy but nice to stay for a while I'll post pictures of the town tomorrow

Some pictures of today's trip:
Huge paper mill just east of Panama City it's fumes can be smelled for miles if you are unfortunate enough to be downwind of it

Most of the area we passed through today is a mix of marsh grass and Pine trees, not many of the Cypress trees so comon around water in Louisiana
We saw this huge puff of thick black smoke off in the distance, one of N. Korea's missle tests??

The Apalachicola River is wide and about 16' deep here.

Seems I have to take a picture of theis abandoned crane every trip here, it is right across from the marina one day the whole thing will fall apart.

Gumbo along the marina's dock the restaurant and marina store are in the background.
