Apalachicola
It was, and is now, very windy in Apalachicola today. There has been no rain although it was misty and foggy this evening. We are hoping to be able to move over to Port St Joe tomorrow, but the weather tonight is forecast to be pretty bad, with lots of rain and thunderstorms if it is ok in the morning we'll go if not we'll spend another day here, it is a good spot.
We did some things on the boat and I walked around town a bit. A few of today's pictures below.
Scipio Creek is a "Dry Stack" marina. Boats are store inside a large building. when the owner of a boat wants to use it he calls and the marina will use a large forklift to "splash" (launch) it as shown above. The forks of the forklift are lowered into the water and the boat floats off. The marian will fuel it and have it ready when the owner arrives.
This is the building where the boats are stored
Inside the building you can see the racks of boats
One of the many Bed and Breakfast Inns on the main entrance into town.
Another B&B
Here are a couple of family homes a couple of blocks off of the "main drag"
Apalachicola was a very busy and wealthy cotton port before the Civil War.
Oysters, shrimp, and tourism seem to be the main business now.
Tena called from Italy, she was having a good time and the country is beautiful. She had a couple cooking classes. She has been doing a lot of walking.
