Tarpon Springs

We had a nice day in port today, Got up early and washed the boat and Marsha vacuumed. The river was foggy for a while but the sun soon burned that off and it was a clear warm day. almost 80.  I walked to the hardware store and along the way saw a barber shop so went in for a haircut. For dinner we went to Costa's very good food Greek, of course! It is amazing how many people here still speak Greek, I asked the waitress if she knew how to write and read Greek also, she said yes, they have optional "Greek School" for an hour a day after regular classes. It is really a very nice area, the waterfront Dodecanese Street, is a bit (very) touristy, but the town itself is just a nice place. There is every kind of marine excursion out of here Scuba, fishing, sponge boats with divers, eco tours, and so on. The shops sell many varieties of sponges, shells and other souvenirs. Tomorrow morning we are off to visit friends on Tierra Verde Island, about 45 miles South of here.

Gumbo at the Tarpon Springs City Marina, the facilities and docks are minimal but right in town on Dodecanese St.

Dodecanese St. this is  the waterfront tourist area.
Lots of restaurants, tours, and sponge shops

Stringers of Hog Snappers from the charter boat next to our slip, they are pretty small fish, most maybe only 10-12" long, Sorry, but at home they would be "throw backs".

The charter boat's fish cleaning table is next to our slip, carcasses and scraps are tossed into the water so there are always a bunch of sea birds hanging around and perched on the pilings waiting for a handout, like this Gull,

or Pelican
